Rebuilding Haiti Now  is a not-for-profit organization, registered in the State of Illinois, USA. It was founded in January 2010, right after the earthquake that struck Haïti on January 12, 2010.

The founder, Gladys Doebeli Rocourt, was born and raised in Haiti. She left the country  while under the dictatorship of “Papa Doc” to pursue her studies in Switzerland where she lived and taught for over 40 years. She has now relocated to the Chicago area in the U.S to be near her children and grand-children. Ms. Doebeli-Rocourt was part of the faculty of The International School of Geneva for more than 30 years. She also held the position of Assistant Principal of the Primary school for several years. Her lifelong experience as a teacher and her keen interest and knowledge in different teaching methodologies has led her to participate in many charitable organizations and activities supporting change in Haiti. Over the years, she has:
  • Led many “Teach the Teachers” seminars
  • Provided advice with regards to curriculum contents and teaching methodologies
  • Established and managed a scholarship fund for children and teenagers in Haiti
  • Consulted with other charitable organizations with how to best provide aid in Haiti
  • Co-founded a private school in Port-au-Prince.
  • Created, in collaboration with Dr. C. Gattegno, materials to accelerate the learning process of reading and writing the Haitian creole.

Véronique Doebeli Saxe is the co-founder of Rebuilding Haiti Now, and currently serves as Vice President and Secretary. She was born and raised in Switzerland, yet she grew up being close to her family in Haiti. She cherishes fond memories of Haiti’s culture, cuisine, and beautiful landscapes.
